GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
A total of 51 credits is required for graduation. Each major semester course yields 1.5 credits. Each major year course yields 3 credits. Each minor year course yields 1 credit. Fitness and Health courses are organized on a trimester basis; all others are semester- or year-long courses.
Students in the Upper School carry a normal course load of five majors each semester. Students in Grade Twelve, depending on the rigor of their program, may take four majors each semester. No student may take fewer than four major courses each semester.
The distribution of required Upper School courses is as follows:
- Arts (Visual Arts, Drama, Music) 1 Year-long Course
- World Languages†† 9 Credits
- Laboratory Science (Biology required) 6 Credits
* Students will take one trimester of Health in Grade Nine (Form III) and one in Grade Ten (Form IV).
** One major year course must be U.S. History.
† Must be earned in the Upper School by the end of Grade Eleven (Form V).
†† A student must complete three years of the same language in the Upper School by the end of Grade Eleven. No credit is allowed for the first year of a language until the second year is completed and passed.
All students must take math, history, and language through Grade Eleven. English must be taken every year.
All students are required to spend ten hours in Community Service each year.
All students in Grade Nine (Form III) must complete one trimester of Financial Literacy.
Fitness Education: All students in Grades Nine-Twelve (Forms III-VI) must be on a Pingry athletic team or enrolled in a Fitness, Health, Dance, or Driver's Education class during all three trimesters. An approved outside athletic commitment may satisfy Pingry's fitness requirements.
A student who repeats a grade is expected to fulfill all grade-level obligations.
To receive credit for a course, a student must earn a passing grade of D- or better.
