CARTER MARSH ABBOTT

The 2012 season was Carter's second year with the Pingry girls' varsity lacrosse program and her debut season as our varsity head coach.
The team finished with a record of 19-3 and claimed the record for most wins in a season. Under the guidance of Coach Abbott, the team also claimed a second consecutive NJSIAA Group I South Sectional Championship, won the Skyland Conference title, and reached the Somerset County Finals for just the second time in Pingry's history.
In June of 2012, Carter was elected to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of US Lacrosse (USL), the national governing body of men’s, women’s, and youth lacrosse with a membership of 400,000. In her two-year term as Secretary of the Board, she will help guide the growth and development of lacrosse at the national level. She was also inducted into the Hall of Fame of USL’s New Jersey Chapter in 2010. Carter currently serves on the USL Women’s Game Committee which oversees the development of women’s lacrosse nationwide, and the Equipment Subcommittee of the Rules Committee which examining the specs for equipment.
Off the field, Carter is also an Upper School history teacher at Pingry. She came to campus in the fall of 2010 after five years at Suffield Academy in Connecticut where she served as a history teacher, lacrosse coach, soccer coach, and dorm parent. She has also taught, coached, and been a dorm parent at The Hill School, and filled those roles—as well as serving as Associate Athletic Director—at Episcopal High School in Virginia.
Carter is a graduate of Andover who went on to earn an A.B. in history cum laude from Princeton and an Ed.M. from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. At Princeton, she was the captain of the women's lacrosse team and a two-time First-Team All-American. While playing for the Tigers, Carter also won an NCAA Division I national championship and was named Ivy League Player of the Year.
