FINE ARTS

An education in the fine arts is an essential part of the academic curriculum.  In short, the arts begin with the self and move out to an engagement with the community and the world.  Each of the disciplines of Visual Arts, Drama, and Music provide valuable and unique learning experiences, developing different but essential academic skills and personal resources.

Each discipline seeks to instill “habits of mind” necessary for life in the 21st century; empathy, flexibility, creative problem solving and collaboration are some of the essential skills developed and strengthened through a broad and diverse arts curriculum. One must move away from the notion that these skills and experiences are extras to the realization that lessons in the Arts contribute to the development of lifelong learners and ethical, global citizens.
